#1: Opening Entry

The blog name says it all:  I'm Ashley, this is my blog, and I'm going abroad.  I'll be in the Catalonia region of Spain for the month of January, and then I'll live in Mérida, Mexico for four months (February-May).  Finally, I'll return to the homestead in May and prepare for graduation.

While studying abroad seems almost like a vacation for college credit, I'm actually going to be enhancing my education tremendously.  My language skills, especially speaking, are going to be awesome--I hope for fluency or near-fluency upon my return; I'm going to live in and explore two very distinct cultures for a direct comparison with my American way of life; and I'm going to live up to my potential as a member of the world community through active social learning.

My travel blog will soon be full of pictures, stories, facts and a few travel tips about the places I'll see.  But for now, I'm tweaking the layout and prepping things here at the homestead.  I have about three weeks to prepare for Spain, then a brief visit back to the homestead for about a week, and then my departure to Mexico.   I may post another pre-travel entry or two, but most of my entries will definitely be while I'm out of the country.

Do you have any questions or remarks?  Drop a line in the comments box and I'll answer them as soon as I can.
